On Popsicles and Smoothies

April 1, 2009

Can I just say, I love smoothies and popsicles! We’ve been making both to keep cool around here since it’s already over 100 degrees.

Here’s a couple recipes for you all to enjoy yourselves.

Strawberry smoothies

1 cup plain yogurt (we use homemade)
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup frozen strawberries

Blend for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until strawberries are crushed.

Dreamsicle smoothies

1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup frozen 100% orange juice (we freeze the juice in ice cube trays and use 5 or 6 cubes)
2 Tbs sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Blend until smooth (or use 1/4 cup unfrozen juice and mix by hand – we’ve done it by hand a lot because the power is out a lot).

Dreamsicle popsicles

Make dreamsicle smoothies and then freeze them in the popsicle maker thing. Yum!

Juice popsicles

Choose your favorite juice, pour into popsicle maker thing and freeze. For a variation, mix in some fruit with your juice before freezing. What is that popsicle maker thing called anyway?

Enjoy!

Does anyone else have ideas for smoothies and popsicles? Please share!

We bought a bunch of strawberries back in January and February and just froze them in our deep freezer. It’s a family tradition to have strawberry cake for birthdays, so frozen strawberries are essential to have all year ’round. 🙂

My popsicle sticks came from America, but they must have some around here somewhere since you can buy popsicles on sticks….

Great idea!!! Right now we have a REALLY SMALL freezer, but we’re hoping to buy a bigger fridge soon, so that should help some 🙂 You can buy deep freezers? That’s a fun idea 🙂 Cool 🙂
